Sweet Tunes

Guys, I finally did it. I made y'all a playlist. After hearing all your request, I finally sat down last night to curate all my favorite songs into one list, and a few hours later managed to compile over three hours of sweet tunes, ready for your ears' pleasure. I am a Pisces through and through, and literally have a song for every emotion, (and damn, I have a lot of emotions). I often use music as an escape, so here you have it; a weird mixture of old, new, slow, fast, happy, and sad songs that will make you feel all the feels. Enjoy, friends.

spoon LADIES...

Introducing my latest line of spoons.... LADIES, y'all! I'm really excited to share these with you.

Have you ever felt bored with your work? Okay, maybe bored isn't the right word. Have you ever felt like you were ready to switch things up, ready to reach a new level of potential, experiment with new designs/words/formats?? I'm always trying to let my daily inspirations leak into my work for my own selfish reasons. It's what makes being a MAKER interesting, soul fulfilling, and FUN. It's so easy to settle in to what sells the best... but man oh man, once you open up the possibilities, you will ignite the fire that started the whole damn thang to begin with! If you don't know what I'm talking about, please just hear me out. Because this doesn't just go for Makers. This goes for everyone, working in any field, with any hobby and passion. Experiment, damnit! Step outside of the box. Don't be such a square! You might have some tweaking to do at first, but once you nail it, you'll prove to yourself that there actually is no ceiling holding you down.

If you follow me on instagram (@SweetThymeDsgn), this may sound familiar.  My Spoon Lady Line is inspired by my favorite kind of stories- ya know, the ones where women save themselves, and encourage females to stand with other females in support, not in competition. Stories where being Pro- Women doesn’t mean being Anti-Men, but rather recognizing each other’s strength and redefining the word “beautiful” by empowering one another, in likeness and difference. Stories where women are so fucking fierce that everyone else wishes they were born a woman too. Ya know, those kind of stories...

I am inspired by strong, independent women every day. However, I think it is important to point out that being strong and independent doesn't have one look. You don't need to be at every protest and rally, have a loud outspoken voice, armpit hair and not give a fuck to be a strong woman. You can give lots of fucks and still be a badass. In my opinion, the only guideline for being a strong independent woman is to live YOUR best life, while supporting the sisters (and brothers - but sisters especially) around you. Supporting one another is a big one, girls... in similarities and differences.

So, I created this line of spoons with all of you ladies in mind. We are all unique, we all offer different gifts to this crazy world and those we love, and yet we all share one amazing, earth shaking, powerful thing; our sisterhood. In the words of Maya Angelou, “It’s in the reach of my arms, the span of my hips, the stride of my step, the curl of my lips. I’m a woman phenomenally.”.

Hi. It's Chelsea...

 pace bend.

pace bend.

I don't know about you guys, but it's hard to find a place to be genuinely yourself when you live in a world that is dominated by social media. Don't get me wrong, I love social media. It has helped me grow my business to a point I KNOW I wouldn't be without it. I am forever grateful to have a platform where I can share my journey and connect with likeminded humans, FOR FREE. And let's be real, I will probably shoot this blog post out to my followers, so I am in no position to bash the little cyber worlds we have created for ourselves. I can, however, put my damn phone down once and a while and relish in the sweetness of a moment for the sole purpose to FEEL it, rather than blast out captions about it into the instagram universe.

Growing a brand is tough, and we rely on social media to take our brand to that next level... again and again and again. Sweet Thyme has completely taken over my online presence, and while I try my best to keep things real, and incorporate my personal life into my business life, it is tiring. I am the type of person who posts a lot when I am in the work grind, which is probably 85% of the time. I have mastered the technique of fitting instagram into my work routine, so it doesn't negatively impact my productivity.  But as soon as I am with my loved ones, on family vacations, have visitors, or am out of my day to day routine, my phone is the first thing to go. Not because I have to tell myself to keep in it my purse, but because I don't have as strong of a desire to check into that world. It naturally happens, and I have come to realize that I need to warn my friends that I will be MIA when real life takes over.

These little breaks are necessary for me to snap back into reality, and realize that the amount of "likes" I get on a post, does not fucking matter, (excuse my french)... because let's be honest, it's SO easy to get caught up in that stuff when trying to build a business. Don't get me wrong, in my maker world, I think building a following is so important and SHOULD be a work priority if you want to make a living doing what you love. You have to promote what love in order for others to fall in love with it too. However, if you want to stay SANE, and be an actual human being that positively impacts this weird world, taking a break from screen time is key.

"You can influence strangers all day long with your inspiring posts, but what about your friends in the flesh?"

You can influence strangers all day long with your inspiring posts, but what about your friends in the flesh? Listen. Like, actually listen. I like to think that I am a Master Listener of sorts, (it kind of comes with my introverted nature - more about that later), so when I am with loved ones, and am able to connect with them, it makes me feel like I am actually doing something more than just promoting my brand to people I don't know.

Anyways, this entry has taken a turn I wasn't expecting, and I don't want to sound like I am lecturing y'all. I mean, I have no idea what I am doing most of the time... so take everything I say with a grain of salt. My main objective of this rant is to introduce the meaning of existence behind this online journal of mine. This will be a place for me to unleash, tap into interests other than spoons & cards, (surprise! - I have other interests!), and write. I like to write, and haven't given it much time or attention over the last few years, so I'm excited to have a place to go specifically made for words. This will be a space for me to connect with y'all in a different way. While Sweet Thyme will naturally come up because it's such a big part of my life, I hope to concentrate on the real stuff. Simple living, relationships, recipes, travel. Less, "Buy My Wares", and more "Let's Get To Know Each Other".

Always feel free to comment below with questions, thoughts, random or relative... it doesn't matter. I want to hear from you.

Thanks for listening...

spoon P O E T R Y series

After a whirlwind of a 2017 Holiday season, I told myself I was going to bring it in 2018. Sweet Thyme turns 4 this year, and I literally cannot believe it. Remember when J.R.R. Tolkien said, "Little by little, one travels far"? Yeah, well I'm feeling that more than ever these days, and it's truly amazing.

I'm so excited to launch the first three poems in my latest project, The Spoon Poetry Series. I've been known to write silly little poems for all my friends and loved ones for any occasion, and so it only seemed natural to marry my love for spoons & poems into one.

The purpose behind this series is to cultivate love and kindness, and to encourage y'all to write your own words. Each poem set comes with a tiny handmade zine with a handful of blank pages. I love picturing y'all taking the time to write down your own thoughts, sentiments, and little love notes.

Introducing 3 poems of  L O V E . . .

Poem #1 is for the LOVER. This is a love poem, through and through. Inspired by my own relationship, and the aspects of it I cherish most, I wanted to focus on a healthy balance of support and space. One of my favorite poems from Rupi Kaur's The Sun And Her Flowers reads, "the right one does not stand in your way, they make space for you to step forward". *happy sigh & heart flutter*

Poem reads : When I See You, My Eyes Turn Into Tiny Hearts. It Was You All Along, I Knew From The Start. You Encourage My Growth, Through All Of Life's Tests. You Ground Me & Lift Me & Bring Out My Best. You Are There When Im Happy, And When I'm Not. It Helps That I Think, You Are Smokin' Hot. So When Life Gets Hard & We're Deep In Low Times, Remember Forever We'll Be Partners In Crime"

Poem #2 is for the SOUL SISTER | Bestie | Gal Pal | First Love | Ride or Die | BADASS LADY in your life. As a female, what greater love is there than the love of your fellow Girl Gang? It is such a special bond, and a kind of love that needs to be celebrated everyday. Let's lift each other up, ladies!

Poem reads : You are my Soul Sister, My Wing Woman, My Ride or Die Bestie. When Life Hands Us Lemons, Things Get Awfully Zesty. My Wild Companion, through the Thick and the Thin. You Put The "She" In Shenanigans & Together We Win. I Will Love You Forever, You Know That it's True. Cheers To Our Friendship, And Our Crew Of Two.

Poem #3 is a little love note for YOUrself. Loving yourself is just as important as loving others. I wrote this poem as a daily reminder to let love in, and be kind to yourself, so you can have more love to give to those around you. I recently read a quote that hit home HARD. "Falling in love with yourself first doesn't make you vain or selfish, it makes you indestructible." Powerful words to live by.

Poem reads : Today is your day, To Rise & Let Go. Hold on only to what serves you, so you have room to grow. Be kind to yourself, because it all starts there. The more you love YOU, the more love you can share.

I'm so excited to see where this series ends up. Stay tuned for more Spoon Poetry, coming soon!

See you out there!
